Programming

Have you ever watched a child deeply at play or an artist engaged in her work? To enter into a creative act lures us into eternal time and infinite possibility. What happens in this Holy space is miraculous, is Creation itself unfolding.  We are not the same afterwards. Time after time, I have witnessed ordinary materials like paper and scissors, glue or cloth transformed in a person's hands to speak a message from the interior landscape of the heart. It takes a certain faith to enter into the creative world and surrender to its power. And this is why creating art touches souls and changes lives. With Blue Altar programming and worship,  I invite others to enter the power of transformation.

Rev. Laurie’s artistic gifts were reflected in the transformation of our formal and venerable sanctuary into one that was warm, welcoming and graced with creativity. This transformation was underscored by the ease and comfort that the children felt in her presence. She loves children and they love her. Her Sunday Services filled my heart week after week in ways that few ministers ever have. Joyce K., Wausau, WI

Worship and Workshops

Is your worship a rich, multi-sensory experience that speaks to heart and soul before any words are actually spoken?  I can teach a Worship Team or ministerial colleagues to  preach with color and texture and shape. For decades, I have designed workshops that are gentle, invitational and transformational for all ages. Families can make a pop-up Blessing Book for their table at home. A small quilt illustrates the  landscape of the Soul. Poetry bubbles up as youth fold origami boxes. There are so many ways to call forth the Spirit...

Consulting

This window was created for an historic Universalist Church during the Stewardship Drive of its 100th Anniversary year. Partnering with an artist in the congregation, we re-purposed an old church window. Members and friends glued on the glass beads to celebrate what they bring to the life of the community today, and what seeds they are planting for the future.  What can I help your children, youth or whole congregation create together to celebrate your story and mission?

Artist in Residence

The four squares of this quilt are just a few in a larger pulpit cloth designed to match the stained glass windows of a congregation's sanctuary windows. As Artist-in-Residence at Wesley Theological Seminary in D.C., I led worship and taught stole-making for ministers in formation. I have led art and spirituality programs in congregations across the country, at church Camps, District and Regional events, women’s retreats and youth conferences.
